Interest in Nordic Ski World Championships from Klingenthal and Oberstdorf

Both Klingenthal and Oberstdorf are interested in hosting the Nordic Ski World Championships in 2033, following the successful event in 2021. Klingenthal plans to collaborate with Oberwiesenthal to organize competitions in ski jumping, cross-country skiing, and Nordic combined, marking its debut as a host. In contrast, Oberstdorf has previously hosted the championships in 1987, 2005, and 2021.

The German Ski Association (DSV) aims to select a suitable candidate through a transparent process, ensuring that neither location is unduly favored. DSV board member Stefan Schwarzbach emphasized the importance of finding a viable solution, as both locations play significant roles in the country's winter sports landscape.

Additionally, there is speculation about a potential bid for the 2031 championships, particularly from Ramsau in Austria. This comes as rumors circulate regarding Lahti's financial guarantees for the 2029 event, which they have already been awarded. The upcoming championships are set to take place in 2025 in Trondheim, Norway, and in 2027 in Falun, Sweden. Historically, Germany has had limited experiences hosting the championships, with only Oberhof in 1931 besides Oberstdorf hosting in recent years.
