'Ski not there': Big scare for Lamparter

A major scare for Johannes Lamparter: Austria's top combined skier had to endure a very turbulent flying phase during the event in Ruka on Saturday. Luckily, the 23-year-old just managed to avoid a fall.

After the jump, Lamparter encountered serious problems in the air. The strong jumper only landed at 106.5 meters, which was enough to eliminate him from the running performance before the cross-country race.

"Today it wasn't much fun," said Lamparter, who felt he might have been too aggressive in challenging conditions. He shared in an ORF interview, "I wasn't afraid; I instinctively reacted correctly. I noticed that my ski was gone, and I just wanted to land on both feet. Move on and maybe deliver a good cross-country race."

Starting with a fifth place
On Friday, Lamparter had a solid start with fifth place, despite having struggled with a knee inflammation in preparation, leaving him with catching up to do in Ruka.

Strong performance from Thomas Rettenegger
On Saturday, Thomas Rettenegger had a better day, lying in second place at halftime as the best ÖSV athlete. With a 47-second deficit to German Johannes Rydzek, Rettenegger headed into the course. Norway's superstar Jarl Magnus Riiber was in fourth place after the jump.
