In a historic moment for Nordic skiing, Jenny Nowak triumphed in the first-ever women’s FIS Nordic Combined competition held in Chaux-Neuve, France today, overcoming challenging high temperatures and humidity.
Svenja Würth kicked off the day strong by securing the top spot after the Ski Jumping event at La Côté Feuillée HS 118. In bright sunlight, Würth achieved the farthest jump of the day with an impressive 107.5 meters (99.7 points), earning herself the lead and the honor of starting first in the afternoon's 4 km roller ski race.
Following closely behind, fellow German competitor Jenny Nowak took second place in the ski jumping with a leap of 103 meters (99.5 points), trailing her teammate by just one second as they transitioned to the skiing portion.
Minja Korhonen held the third position with a jump of 105.5 meters (95.5 points), entering the race 17 seconds behind the leader, creating a competitive atmosphere as eleven athletes started within the first minute.
As the race commenced, Nowak surged ahead, overtaking Würth within the first hundred meters. By the two-kilometer mark, she had extended her lead to 17.7 seconds over her teammate. In a show of determination, Ema Volavsek caught up with Korhonen, setting the stage for an exciting final round.
Despite her strong start, Würth struggled to keep pace with the accelerating competitors and gradually lost ground. Ultimately, Nowak celebrated her second victory in the Summer Grand Prix 2024, reasserting her dominance by reclaiming the yellow bib as the overall leader. Volavsek finished 20.5 seconds behind Nowak to secure the second position, while Korhonen followed in third, 26.6 seconds back.
