Armbruster Fails to Medal in Norway Triumph
Nathalie Armbruster, a strong contender for a medal, fell short of expectations during the Nordic Combined World Championships held in Trondheim. As her teammate, Gyda Westvold Hansen from Norway, bagged her third consecutive gold medal in the event, Armbruster could only manage an eighth-place finish.
Armbruster's performance was hampered by a poor jump, which landed her in 20th place heading into the ski race. Despite a valiant effort, her teammate Jenny Nowak's promising position turned into a challenge as both silver and bronze medals were claimed by Norwegian and Austrian skiers.
Armbruster had previously celebrated a silver medal in the mixed team event with her teammates Vinzenz Geiger and Julian Schmid. "At least that can't be taken away from me," she said, while the individual particularly stung given expectations.
The competition concluded with strong performances from Maria Gerboth and WM debutante Ronja Loh, placing 13th and 20th, respectively. The German athletes will soon return home after a disappointing end to their championship tour, with Armbruster still having a shot at the overall World Cup.
She is set to compete at the large hill in Oslo on March 15-16, where she could make history as the first German to win the overall World Cup.
