Twice Third in Oslo: Carl on a Historic Podium Course

Olympic champion Victoria Carl took major steps towards a historic first podium for a German cross-country skier in the overall World Cup standings with an impressive performance in Oslo. The 29-year-old Thüringer finished third in the 10 km freestyle race at the legendary Holmenkollen, following her third-place finish over double the distance the previous day.

Carl was 10 seconds behind Swedish surprise winner Moa Ilar, who prevailed over Norwegian Heidi Weng (+1.6). U.S. athlete Jessie Diggins claimed sixth place, securing the overall World Cup title for the third time. Carl significantly distanced her main competitors, Kerttu Niskanen (Finland/8.) and Astrid Oyre Slind (Norway/13.).

As the season approaches its last races in Tallinn and Lahti, Jessie Diggins leads with 2071 points, followed by Carl at 1641. Slind is in third (1515) ahead of Niskanen (1510). Since the World Cup began in the 1979/80 season, no German skier has ended the season ranked among the top three. Evi Sachenbacher-Stehle was twice fourth (2002/03 and 2005/06).

Norwegian star Therese Johaug, who celebrated her 88th World Cup victory on Saturday, finished fifth on Sunday. This could potentially mark her last race in her home country, as she has not publicly confirmed whether she intends to retire after the season or continue her career until the 2026 Olympics.
