Therese Johaug discusses hard work for the comeback

Therese Johaug talks about the hard work required for her comeback.

After being away from competition for two years, Johaug has faced tears, screams, and a battle with her own body. Reflecting on her emotional torment over the past months, she expressed that her path to returning to skiing was far from easy.

Just a week before her comeback appearance, the Norwegian cross-country skiing queen looked back at the emotional torture of the past months. Johaug admitted to falling into a rut from which she felt she needed to escape, stating that knowing her body well allowed her to recognize the alarms earlier than expected.

Johaug: “Something Was Wrong in My Body”

The four-time Olympic champion not only had to get into competitive shape but also manage her responsibilities as a mother. Johaug's friend and former teammate Marit Bjørgen shared that the star athlete regularly broke down in tears during the autumn.

The 14-time world champion herself admitted to feeling somewhat fatigued in October, likely due to a physical ailment she believed was linked to her children and kindergarten duties. She felt there was "something in my body" causing issues. Thankfully, that problem has now been resolved.

Johaug announced her successful career-ending in March 2022 and became a mother in May 2023. She has now announced her comeback for the upcoming cross-country winter season, aiming for the highlight of the season, the home World Championships.
