The International Ski Federation (FIS) has officially announced that the 2027 World Ski Championships will take place in Falun, Sweden. Remarkably, Falun was the only candidate for this prestigious event. The city has a rich history with the championships, having hosted them four times, starting in 1954 and followed by events in 1974, 1993, and most recently in 2015.
Calle Halfvarsson, a participant in the 2015 championships, reflects fondly on that year, describing it as a vibrant occasion filled with passionate fans. The news of Falun's selection for the 2027 event has inspired him to consider extending his athletic career for another five years, with the dream of competing in front of a home crowd.
Over the years, Falun’s ski facilities have been significantly improved, including the Lugnet Ski Stadium and the jumping hills, which were revamped in preparation for previous championships.
The 2015 championships were particularly memorable due to the exceptional performances of Swedish skier Charlotte Kalla, who secured an impressive four medals, and the notorious success of Petter Northug from Norway, who also achieved four gold medals amidst some controversy.
