William Poromaa had a challenging season last year filled with injuries, illnesses and disappointing outcomes. He acknowledges the mental toll of these setbacks and reveals that he has had to start from scratch to regain his motivation and focus.

"I've had to rethink everything," he tells SVT Sport. Poromaa experienced a severe crash during a Swedish premiere that led to ongoing back issues and suffered a COVID-19 diagnosis after a World Cup race.

Despite these challenges, he managed to secure a podium finish in one stage of the Tour de Ski, which was his only significant achievement for the season.

Reflecting on his struggles, he admits, "I gave up too easily. I felt unprepared both physically and mentally on the start line. Almost immediately after the season ended, I realized I had already processed those feelings and could start training again."

To prepare for the new season, Poromaa has intensified collaboration with his dietitian and physiotherapist. Additionally, mental training has become an integral part of his routine.

He notes that he often felt unready to compete, a feeling he found quite unsettling. These changes are aimed at ensuring he is better equipped mentally and physically for the upcoming challenges.
