The Vuokatti Skiing event will be held this coming Saturday, February 8, on its traditional routes despite the challenges posed by an exceptionally low-snowfall winter. According to Teemu Takalon, Director of Kainuu Sports, the network of ski tracks is in good condition, ensuring that the event can be conducted safely.
Competitors can choose routes ranging from 14 kilometers all the way up to 100 kilometers, offered in both classic and skating techniques. This year, a new addition called the Vuokatti Vertical uphill competition has been introduced, allowing athletes competing in the 30 km, 50 km, and 100 km races to test their endurance on an approximately one-kilometer climb known as the Rönkö ascent.
Approximately 600 skiers from ten different countries have registered to participate so far. Takalon is optimistic that registration numbers will surge by the end of the week, especially as the weather forecast predicts excellent conditions for skiing. Competitors can register in advance via the Kainuu Sports website or on-site at the Vuokatti Arena’s competition office on Saturday morning.
