Revealed: Head Coach Petter Myhlback Leaves the Swedish National Team
Petter Myhlback has officially announced that he will be departing from his role as head coach of the Swedish cross-country skiing team. According to sources from SVT Sport, he will finish his tenure after the current season.
In the wake of the women’s relay at the World Championships, which ended with a bronze for Sweden, concerns arose from skier Frida Karlsson regarding the equipment utilized. This comment sparked significant internal conflict within the Swedish national team. Myhlback responded to the criticism by asserting that there were no mistakes made concerning the ski preparation and expressed his frustration about blaming sports failures on the material.
Despite the conflict, a resolution was reached during the championship, and an apology was issued to Karlsson. Myhlback had been absent from the team during several World Cup weekends post-World Championships, only attending events in Falun.
As reports suggest that he may have completed his final duties as head coach, Myhlback has a contract that continues into the next season, prompting landslagschefen Anders Byström to comment on the ongoing discussions regarding the future structure of the coaching team after this weekend’s competitions.
"We will discuss everything after this weekend, assessing who wants to continue," Byström stated, implying that evaluations and upcoming changes are in order.
This significant development signifies a potential reshaping within the Swedish cross-country skiing framework, following Myhlback's role since the spring of 2020.
