UAA’s Corbin Carpenter earns All-America honors in classic ski race at NCAA National Championships - Anchorage Daily News
For the second day in a row at the 2025 NCAA Skiing National Championships in New Hampshire, the University of Alaska Anchorage skiing program had at least one student athlete receive All-America honors.
After a trio of Seawolves cracked the top 10 in the giant slalom race on Wednesday, the lone Seawolf to achieve the feat on Thursday was sophomore Corbin Carpenter in the 7.5-kilometer classic race. With a time of 22 minutes, 17.8 seconds, he just snuck in at 10th place.
“Great race for Corbin today,” UAA associate head coach Trond Flagstad said in a statement. “He has had a strong season so far, and we have been waiting for his breakthrough race, and we are happy that it happened today. We (are) already looking forward to Saturday.”
Senior Peter Hinds of Anchorage wasn’t too far behind, coming in 14th place with a time of 22:52.0, and fellow senior Derek Deuling landed in 24th place with a mark of 23:28.1.
“Peter had a very solid race, and Derek was a little under par from what we know he can do,” Flagstad said.
On the women’s side, UAA’s highest finisher was senior Beth Granstrom, who was the only Seawolf to crack the top 20 with a 15th-place finishing time of 25:20.4. Freshman Marit Flora finished in 32nd place (26:40.6), and sophomore Marlie Molinaro in 36th place (26:49.4).
“Beth had a great race only three seconds up and she would have been 12th,” Flagstad said. “It was a tight race and just a few seconds can bump you up quite a bit. Marit and Marlie had good races in a tough field. I think both would have wanted more so we are focusing on Saturday now.”
As a team, the Seawolves are currently sixth of 23 in the team standings with 144 points heading into Friday’s giant slalom races.
