Turku's Impivaara Ski Trail Opened Today – Sports Facilities Manager Believes Artificial Snow Will Last Through Warm Weather

The snow-covered ski trail at Impivaara in Turku was opened to skiers this morning, just as weather conditions are set to warm up. The city of Turku announced the opening on its official website.
Sports facilities manager Joni Österlund believes the trail will endure the warmer temperatures predicted for the nearby days. "I don't foresee these conditions destroying it. It will withstand some rain and plus temperatures for a while. The artificial snow consists of smaller flakes, which compact together better, thus enabling it to last longer," he describes.
For example, nearby trails at Ruskola and Nousianen were opened last weekend. While snow-making efforts at Impivaara had begun before Epiphany, progress was hampered by warmer weather and technical issues. One of the four snow machines was malfunctioning, as well as the water cooling basin used for snow-making.
Additionally, the youth trail is nearly ready, with snow-making continuing on the extra loop and toboggan slope when temperatures drop. Österlund aims to keep the snow-covered loop at Nunnavuori skiable until the end of March, weather permitting.
