In a startling moment witnessed during the women’s sprint preliminaries in Ruka, a severe incident unfolded when Sweden’s sprint star, Linn Svahn, went crashing off the course reminiscent of a race car driver losing control.

This incident occurred in the second heat of the sprint, where Norwegian athletes Ane Appelkvist and Hedda Amundsen also fell, but it was Svahn's exit that caused the most alarm. She veered off at high speed, skidding spectacularly towards the spectator area and close to the nearby roadway. Thankfully, she escaped with just a scare, showing remarkable resilience.

Svahn later explained to reporters her relief that the crash did not result in any serious injuries. She noted, "I’m relieved that it didn’t end worse. This is unfortunate for everyone; we all want to start our World Cup season on a high note, and a crash at this point in the season is indeed disappointing."

On the other hand, veteran skier Anne Kyllönen, who managed to navigate the chaos, expressed mixed emotions after her heat. Although she was ecstatic about winning her heat, she faced uncertainty about qualifying for the finals based on her overall time, contrasting her victory against the high stakes of the event.

Kyllönen remarked, "I felt good throughout the skiing. It was fantastic to win my heat, but not knowing if I’d make the finals left me frustrated. I realized I needed to utilize all my strengths for a better chance. I might have to work on my techniques where I feel weaker.” Despite her disappointment, she appreciated the support from the audience and felt positive about her performance.
