Langrenn: Last time Therese Johaug took Kristin (1) on TV: – It wasn't exactly the plan
Therese Johaug (36) consciously decided to keep her daughter out of the public eye, but unexpectedly they appeared together on television. This is not going to happen again.
Johaug was victorious in the mass start in Lillehammer last weekend. Satisfied, she faced the press but not alone. She carried her daughter Kristin (1) on her arm. Kristin's father, Nils Jakob Hoff, had been watching the race with her but had to rush off to move a wrongly parked car. Thus, Kristin ended up accompanying her mother during the victory interview.
- It wasn't really planned, to say the least, Johaug recounts ahead of the World Cup weekend in Davos, Switzerland.
"Will this be the last time she appears on TV?"
- Yes, let’s hope so.
Johaug and her family have made a conscious choice to limit their daughter’s exposure to the public. She has a significant following on Instagram but doesn't share any pictures featuring her daughter's face.
- We decided, at least so far, not to post many photos. But I respect both sides of the argument. You just have to find your way with it. We might do it ourselves in the future, but so far we've chosen not to, she explains.
The random circumstances led to Kristin's debut in public, which happened during an interview with TV2. Even though it wasn’t planned, Johaug feels relaxed about the event afterward.
-
We indeed told reporters and photographers not to use her face. It’s just that images can be reused many times if you say yes at first.
-
Something happened on the side that we couldn't quite control. But I think it’s fine. I’m very relaxed about it, says Johaug, who enjoys the moment with her family at the World Cup in Davos.
The weekend starts with a team sprint on Friday and a sprint on Saturday. Johaug will compete in the 20-kilometer classic on Sunday, aiming to push herself hard after her comeback.
- That’s perhaps where I’ve missed the last little spark. It’s about really going for it. It’s not fast; it’s more about the feeling of pushing myself hard. When that burn is at the back of my throat, she describes.
You can listen to the weekend’s races from Davos on NRK Radio.
