Therese Johaug was defeated by teammate Astrid Øyre Slind, marking a significant upset in a race where Johaug was the favorite. Competing in the Swiss Alps, Johaug felt overwhelmed by the altitude and admitted that she was feeling very nauseous during the race.

"I felt that I was really struggling, and I even threw up while skiing," Johaug revealed. The race ended with Slind finishing 13.5 seconds ahead of Johaug, leading to her first World Cup victory. NRKs expert Fredrik Aukland expressed surprise at how close the competition was, noting that this was not what anyone expected. Johaug had initially led the race but lost time significantly in a steep section just before the finish.

Niskanen, who competed earlier in the men's event and aimed to outperform the Norwegians, was unable to secure a victory, underscoring the competitive and unpredictable nature of the race weekend in Davos. Johaug's unexpected struggle once again highlights the challenges athletes face at high altitudes and how quickly lead changes can happen in competitive sports.
