Therese Johaug, 36, who has an impressive career record of 14 World Championship gold medals and 19 total medals, is on the lookout for more success in the upcoming home World Championships in Trondheim, which will take place in February and March. Her coach, Pål Gunnar Mikkelsplass, cautions that her competitors should be wary of her return.

Johaug has not competed in the World Cup since winning the Tour de Ski around the turn of the year, and she will also miss the upcoming events in Engadin and the World Cup in Cogne next week. She is expected to make her return to the competition circuit in Falun in mid-February, just over a week before the World Championships begin.

Mikkelsplass is optimistic about Johaug’s preparation, referencing her history of elevating her performance level following rigorous training phases, particularly after a competitive season like the Tour de Ski. He believes they are on the right path for the World Championships, despite the inherent risks of overtraining. ,'Reassuringly, Johaug is approaching her training this time with a slightly more relaxed attitude than previously.'
