Therese Johaug is making a much-anticipated return to competitive skiing this winter, marking her comeback after a two-year hiatus. However, this resurgence is set to be short-lived. Johaug has clearly stated that she will only compete for one season, announcing emphatically, "It’s only Trondheim, then I’m done."

The 36-year-old skier confirmed her plans over the summer to take part in the World Championships next season, which will be held in her home country. During a recent interview with SVT Sport in Oslo, she reiterated that this will be her final chapter on the competitive circuit.

When pressed about the definitiveness of her decision, she responded, "It is completely certain."

Even if Johaug were to sweep every event she participates in this season, she remains firm in her resolve not to compete in the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina. Although the Olympic events will unfold in Val di Fiemme, Italy—where Johaug clinched gold in both the 10 km freestyle and the relay during the 2013 World Championships—her past victories will not persuade her to extend her career.

Johaug's decision underscores her commitment to bowing out on her own terms, leaving a legacy in the sport while cherishing her final season of competition.
