Just days before the World Championships in Trondheim are set to begin, it has been announced that Finland’s biggest medal hope in cross-country skiing is sick.

After a World Cup weekend in Falun just a week ago, Iivo Niskanen has fallen ill – putting his participation in the World Championships in jeopardy.

"Unfortunately, the flu came like a gift from Sweden," says the 33-year-old, according to his interview with Ilta-Sanomat.

This news comes at a critical time as the World Championships approach, raising serious concerns about one of Finland's key competitors in cross-country skiing.
