The Ruka Selection is Set: These Athletes Get the Opportunity

The Norwegian Ski Federation has published the names of the athletes who will compete in the World Cup in Finland.

Andreas Fjorden Ree (middle) is among those given the opportunity in Finland.

This week, both Nordic combined and cross-country athletes will open their World Cup season in Ruka, Finland. Norwegian ski jumpers are also making the trip to Finland, having kicked off the season the previous week in Lillehammer.

Among the cross-country skiers, Andreas Fjorden Ree has made the squad after his shocking victory in the 10-kilometer event at Beitostølen during the national opening weekend, securing him a spot in the World Cup opener.

"We are bringing a strong team to Ruka, and we look forward to getting started with the World Cup season. Many Norwegian skiers performed incredibly well at Beitostølen over the weekend, and the competition to represent Norway internationally will be fierce going forward," said national team coach Ulf Morten Aune.

Anne Kjersti Kalvå has opted to skip the World Cup opener after a disappointing weekend at Beitostølen, where she finished 11th in the classic event and withdrew from Sunday’s 10-kilometer freestyle.

"Her body did not respond as hoped during the season opener at Beitostølen. She will now prioritize training at home and return to competition when she is ready to do so," said national team doctor Ove Feragen.
