Finnish and Swedish athletes competed in the under‑23 sprint events at the Youth World Championships in cross‑country skiing in Schilpario, Italy. On Tuesday, Ike Melnits and Nora Kytäjä advanced to the semifinals in the classical-style races.
In the men’s category, along with Ike Melnits, Finnish athletes Eero Rantala and Alexander Ståhlberg qualified based on their time trials but were later eliminated in the quarterfinals. Sweden’s Anton Grahn won the time trial, with Måns Skoglund finishing second and Norway’s Jörgen Schjölberg in third.
On the women’s side, Nora Kytäjä advanced alongside Maija Tiainen and Elsa Torvinen, though the pace proved too challenging for some—with Eevi-Inkeri Tossavainen missing out. In the time trials, Sweden’s Märta Rosenberg clocked the fastest time, followed by Andorra’s Gina Del Rio and Sweden’s Elin Henriksson. The article underscores the festive atmosphere among the Swedish contingent while noting the promising performances of the Finnish team.
