Surface criticized after women's World Championship 50 km race

The women's World Championship 50 km race in Trondheim took place under very loose snow conditions, prompting significant criticism from the athletes. Moa Ilar described the experience to SVT Sport as a parody from start to finish.

The organizers chose not to salt the track, which resulted in conditions that were termed absurd by SVT's expert Anders Blomquist. Competitors like Theodor Peterson referred to it as the worst conditions they had ever encountered.

The loose snow caused many falls during the race. Jonna Sundling elaborated on this, saying, "It was like a joke throughout. The harder you pushed, the more you slumped back. Honestly, this is unacceptable. It was laughable."

Despite the challenging conditions, Frida Karlsson managed to prevail, claiming her first gold medal at the World Championships. In contrast, Ebba Andersson suffered a fall in the final stretch, losing her chance at winning a medal. Instead, Heidi Weng and Therese Johaug picked up silver and bronze, respectively.
