As the ski season approaches in Finland, there have been rising concerns about the financial challenges faced by the Ski Federation. This organization had previously warned that athletes might have to bear personal costs when participating in World Cup events.
In a timely move, the Finnish Ski Federation found a generous ally in Jobilla, an international recruitment technology company. Jobilla announced it will cover the personal expenses of athletes competing in the first World Cup event of the season, taking place from late November to early December in Ruka, Kuusamo.
Originally, the Ski Federation had flagged a tough financial start to the international competition season, mentioning that athletes could face personal costs of up to 500 euros per weekend of competition. Interim director, Marleena Valtasola, noted that this financial strain could hinder athletes' performances.
With its support, Jobilla aims to lead by example, encouraging other companies to step forward and assist the ski sports community, thus allowing athletes to focus entirely on their performances without the burden of financial stress.
Jobilla’s CEO, Henri Nordström, shared his enthusiasm about the initiative: "I believe that many successful companies in Finland can contribute, and I encourage them to support our athletes in their skiing endeavors."
This initiative has been warmly received within the sports community. Choiring in agreement, Sirpa Korkatti, the president of the Ski Federation, remarked that such support boosts morale and assures athletes of the strong backing they have behind them.
