Superstars of Skiing Mock Each Other – Unusual Claim by a Swede Regarding Johannes Klæbo

Superstars of skiing have been engaging in fierce banter, particularly surrounding a strange claim made by Swedish skier Edvin Anger about Norwegian star Johannes Klæbo.

Edvin Anger's recent performances have positioned him as a leading challenger to Klæbo as they head into the World Championships. However, in a recent sprint final, Klæbo's superior speed allowed him to comfortably outpace Anger, who finished second.

The 22-year-old Anger celebrated his first World Cup victory in sprinting last week while Klæbo was absent, fueling his confidence. He declared in an interview with Yle Sports that Klæbo is indeed beatable. "I'm 22 years old. He's older than me. My performance trajectory is on the rise, while his will inevitably decline," Anger stated.

Since dominating the sprint scene since the 2018 Winter Olympics, Klæbo has faced many challengers, yet none have succeeded in dethroning him completely. Klæbo has consistently secured titles in championship events since then.

Clarity about their competition came during the recent Engadin sprint. Both were leading as they approached the finish line, but Klæbo’s speed proved undeniable as he left Anger behind and slowed down enough to throw a long stare back at his rival.

"I turned my head, but it took a while to notice him (Anger)," Klæbo remarked regarding the supposed dominance.

Anger candidly acknowledged that he and Klæbo are not the best of friends, stating, "We are not the best buddies. I haven’t found a common rhythm with him. It feels like Klæbo has purposefully avoided looking at me." In the aftermath of a recent race where Anger placed second and Klæbo third, the tension continued to brew.

With the sprint event being executed in freestyle skiing at the upcoming World Championships, it remains to be seen whether Anger can indeed end Klæbo’s winning streak.
