Stina Nilsson Bids Farewell to National Team Aspirations
Originally published in SVT Sport on August 20, 2024
Stina Nilsson has made it clear that she has no intentions of rejoining the Swedish national team for traditional cross-country skiing. Instead, her sights are set on long-distance racing, primarily in the prestigious Ski Classics series. Despite the open invitation extended to her by national team leader Anders Byström, Nilsson has decisively closed that chapter, emphasizing that her future lies solely in long-distance skiing.
On April 23, she revealed her transition from biathlon back to her roots in cross-country skiing, but now with a renewed focus on competing in longer races. Nilsson also noted that she has not communicated with Byström about any possible returns to events like the World Championships scheduled for Trondheim in 2025. Her commitment to long-distance skiing marks a significant shift in her athletic career.
