The ski season in Southern Savonia has concluded weeks ahead of schedule this year. In Savonlinna, the ski season ended in late March, at least two weeks earlier than last year. According to Masa Kapanen, the superintendent of parks in Savonlinna, snow levels were insufficient throughout the winter, and by the end of the season, some wooded areas had no snow at all. The early snow trail in Mikkeli officially closed on April 4, although there's a history of skiing occurring into May on this trail. "Weather conditions forced us to close the trail as the ground started to appear," said Tiina Juhola, the city's sports director.
