Skistad finishes second in Engadin – Fossesholm disappointed

Kristine Stavås Skistad finished in second place at the Engadin sprint competition, losing out to Jonna Sundling, who set a fast pace from the start and ultimately clinched the victory. Skistad managed to keep up with Sundling initially but lacked the energy to secure a win in the final sprint.

This race was important for Skistad, who had previously achieved victory in a World Cup event in France. The performance in Engadin serves as a valuable stepping stone ahead of the upcoming World Championships scheduled to take place next month in Granåsen.

In contrast, Helene Marie Fossesholm experienced a disappointing day, near a fall in her quarterfinal heat, which led to her elimination. She noted the significance of this race, stating, "Every race is important, but today's was especially so."

The competition for the last position in the sprint event for the World Championships remains open, with Fossesholm's early exit complicating her chances. Among the Norwegian women, Anna Odine Strøm and Lotta Udnes Weng also made their case for inclusion in the final lineup, after impressive runs in Engadin, particularly Weng, who reached the finals and finished fifth. The Norwegian team will finalize their selections for the championships soon following the World Cup round in Cogne in early February.
