Skiing Started in Vuokatti
The traditional early snow track opened on Friday, October 11, 2024, for skiers in Sotkamo, Vuokatti. National team skier Perttu Hyvärinen noted that gaining access to the snow is a crucial moment following the summer training period.
Despite warm and rainy weather, the track has attracted eager skiers. The early snow track is vital for athletes in Finland, marking an anticipated phase for training. Hyvärinen mentioned, "Ski kilometers at this point of the season are very important, and in Vuokatti, we can start skiing really early at sea level."
In the first phase, nearly two kilometers of the track were completed, but even a short stretch helps in training. Hyvärinen described the excitement about finally getting to ski on snow, saying, "I am good at nothing else but gliding on skis, so I enjoy finally skiing on snow."
This early snow track has been established in Vuokatti for over twenty years. This year, the ski season began under warm and rainy conditions. Skiers find their feedback taken into account in creating the early snow track, according to skier Miska Poikkimäki, who also works on the track and personally maintains its quality before heading out for his skiing sessions.
