Kokkolan Santahaa has opened its first snow ski trail for the season on November 22. The city has introduced a voluntary trail fee aimed at securing future maintenance of the trail. The fee is five euros for visitors over the age of 18 per session or 25 euros for the entire season.
Sports services manager Lotta Nyqvist hopes that many will choose to pay the fee, although the city will not enforce payment. Payments can be made online or at the sports hall's cash register.
The first snow trail is approximately one kilometer long, made from stored snow and maintaining it costs around 35,000 euros annually. The city plans to provide updates on the number of people who contribute by paying the voluntary fee, which has been included in the city’s financial plans.
