Ski-VM: Johannes Høsflot Klæbo wins another gold in chaotic weather

The 2025 Ski World Championships kicked off under challenging conditions in Trondheim. Johannes Høsflot Klæbo celebrated yet another gold medal, solidifying his status as one of the top competitors in cross-country skiing. This victory marks Klæbo's third consecutive gold medal at the World Championships, showcasing his exceptional talent and determination, especially in the face of difficult weather.

Erik Valnes, who had suffered from a back injury leading up to the event, miraculously competed and claimed the silver medal, an achievement he described as unexpected after such a tumultuous lead-up. He candidly shared his experiences of doubt and the grueling training leading up to the race.

"I didn't think I would even be here after the injury, but my desire to compete at home spurred me on," Valnes stated, visibly emotional after his performance.

Despite the sneaky snow and the challenging course conditions that led to discussions among commentators regarding the fairness of the race, Klæbo demonstrated superior skill and stamina, pulling ahead successfully in the latter stages of the race.

In the end, he triumphed over his rivals, including Swedish competitor William Poromaa, who, while impressive, fell short in the final stretch. The support from team members and coaches was immensely significant, fueling Klæbo's drive to maintain his winning streak.

"The victory today feels incredible; it’s great to showcase this ability on such a prestigious stage. I hope my grandfather is proud of me," Klæbo reflected on his performance after crossing the finish line.
