Sick Norwegian - "Hopeless!" Last Year's Tour Winner Gives Up
Harald Oestberg Amundsen has dropped out of the Tour de Ski on his rest day. This was confirmed by FIS, stating the situation is currently "hopeless," according to the Norwegian.
The 26-year-old woke up on Thursday morning with a "burning throat and headaches". He concluded that continuing the stage race was "hopeless." Amundsen won both the Tour and the overall cross-country World Cup last winter. At the time of his withdrawal, he was in third place in the Tour, trailing 57 seconds behind his leading compatriot Johannes Klaebo. Austrian Mika Vermeulen was fourth at that moment.
