There was a contrasting day for the Norwegian ski stars as Johannes Høsflot Klæbo secured the overall victory in the World Cup, while Kristine Stavås Skistad was unexpectedly eliminated in the semi-finals.

It initially appeared that Skistad had full control over the first semi-final heat alongside Swedish competitor Maja Dahlqvist. However, an American racer, Julia Kern, made a substantial finish that propelled her ahead.

“I made a mistake at the end; that shouldn’t happen,” Skistad stated in an interview with Viaplay after learning of her elimination from the sprint.

With a tight race outcome of only two hundredths of a second separating her from a spot in the finals, Skistad expressed disappointment at not advancing. “It’s frustrating when I felt strong and in control,” she added.

In contrast, Johannes Høsflot Klæbo not only won his heat but ensured his position at the top of the overall standings before the final events in Lahti. This marks Klæbo's fifth consecutive overall World Cup victory, solidifying his dominance in cross-country skiing.

The final sprint event showcases Klæbo’s infallibility this season, having not lost a single sprint in over a year. “I hope to see more of these city sprint events in the future,” Klæbo remarked, embracing the excitement of the competition.

However, the day ended disappointingly for Skistad, becoming the first time she has ever failed to reach the finals in a World Cup semi-final, having progressed to the finals 25 times prior.

As the race concluded, Klæbo celebrated joined on the podium by fellow competitors Jules Chappaz and reserve Harald Østberg Amundsen, both securing second place, creating an unusual but memorable moment for the event.

With a couple of races still hanging in the balance, including a sprint and a five-kilometer event, both enthusiasts and athletes look forward to the thrill of the final World Cup leg.
