Rovaniemi will begin preparing ski tracks made from preserved snow even though temperatures are forecasted to rise to 10 degrees Celsius in the coming days. Despite the warm weather, the local community is looking forward to the ski season, with the planned opening of the first section of the Ounasvaara ski trail on Saturday, October 26.

According to Sanna Rieki, the financial manager of Santasport, the goal is to complete 1.3 kilometers of the trail initially, with a total distance of six kilometers planned along with a 600-meter sprint track. Last year, the track opened on October 21, and in 2022, skiing began on October 19, both thanks to favorable weather conditions.

The production costs for the snow tracks at Ounasvaara are covered by Santasport, the city of Rovaniemi, and Visit Rovaniemi. The winter season fees are set at 75 euros for locals and 150 euros for non-residents.
