Petter Northug, the iconic skier, has revealed that his major goal this season is to finish on the podium at the Vasaloppet. Rumors have circulated about his potential return to the home World Championships in Trondheim, but Northug emphasizes that he is setting his sights on other achievements this year. Last winter, he made a comeback at the Norwegian Championships, where he won a silver medal in the team sprint with his younger brother Even Northug. Recently, he expressed surprise at the attention surrounding his rumored return, stating, "I am a bit surprised by how much hype there is and all the questions I receive." He jokingly claimed that if he were to participate in the World Championships, he would guarantee a gold medal, particularly if he could team up with Johannes Klæbo. As the season progresses, Northug will compete again at the Norwegian season opener in Beitostölen at the end of November, aiming to improve on his previous 18th place finish at the Vasaloppet.
