Petter Northug faced disqualification during the 70-kilometer ski race Marcialonga in Italy. Initially listed in 39th place, nearly eleven minutes behind winner Andreas Nygaard, Northug was later removed from the results.
The Ski Classics jury confirmed that Northug was disqualified due to receiving two yellow cards. Lukas Bauer, a jury member, stated, "If you receive two yellow cards, you are disqualified."
The rules of Ski Classics clearly state that classic skiing technique must be used in racing. Northug has faced scrutiny before regarding rule violations concerning skating. He is quoted humorously mentioning that there would be a press conference the next day to discuss the events.
Despite the disqualification, Northug remains determined to work towards competing in the Olympics in 2026. This incident highlights ongoing discussions around skating techniques and the strict enforcement of rules in endurance skiing events.
