Originally published in Krone.at on February 27, 2025
Mika Vermeulen is currently competing at the Nordic Ski World Championships in cross-country skiing, where he has three opportunities that could lead to historic medals. According to his father Vincent, Mika’s love for the sport began when his father used a special trick with the cross-country skis to get him interested. Despite that early spark, Mika later found the rigorous nature of cross-country skiing overwhelming.
Vincent also alluded to some motivational influence from the legendary Hermann Maier, indicating that even established stars can inspire young athletes to push their limits. This personal insight offers a glimpse into the combination of familial influence and external motivation that can drive the development of budding international competitors in the demanding world of cross-country skiing.
