Opening of the First Snow Trail in Oulu's Sankivaaran on Friday – Mild Weather Won't Stop the Season's Start

The first snow trail will be available for skiers on Friday, November 8, 2024, at 10 AM.
The track in Sankivaaran can withstand mild weather conditions, as the snow has been stored under a protective layer throughout the summer. It might contain some impurities due to the storage method.
Pekka Loukkola, the manager of Oulu's sports services, assures that skiing can proceed as planned. "We have managed to pack 40 centimeters of snow onto the ski trail, so mild weather will not prevent the season from starting. Cold temperatures overnight in the coming days will also assist in maintaining conditions," says Loukkola.
The length of the track is 1.3 kilometers, and it will be illuminated from 6 AM to 11 PM during dark hours. The trail is usually groomed early in the morning with additional maintenance as necessary. Drivers are asked to observe the speed limit of 40 km/h on Mikonmäentie as they approach the ski center, keeping in mind the local residents.
The conditions for the Sankivaaran first snow trail can be monitored via web cameras on Oulu's sports services website at ouka.fi/latukamerat.
