Nove Mesto Pulls Out of Hosting Cross-Country Skiing World Cup
Originally published in Eurosport on August 21, 2024
In a surprising turn of events, Nove Mesto has announced it will withdraw from hosting the upcoming cross-country skiing World Cup weekend this winter. This decision stems from significant financial difficulties that the Czech venue is currently grappling with. The International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) confirmed the cancellation, stating that preparations for the event—initially scheduled for January 31 to February 2—can no longer proceed due to these financial constraints.
Efforts are underway to identify a substitute host for this race weekend. This competition was poised to be one of the final events leading up to the World Championships in Trondheim. The FIS is expected to discuss potential alternatives at their autumn meetings, which are set to take place from September 24 to 27.
