Norwegians were astonished by Frida Karlsson's display during the 10km interval start in Ruka on Friday, where she secured a spectacular victory. With an impressive lead of 46.5 seconds over Therese Johaug, Karlsson's performance was one of the most dominant seen in women's World Cup history, particularly in the 10km race.

During the race, Karlsson delivered a performance that was unmatched, producing a result that has not been seen often in women’s skiing, where margins exceed 40 seconds between the competitors. The only skier who has historically had a stronger influence than Karlsson, when performing at their peak, is Johaug, but even she has accomplished this feat only once.

According to the official FIS site, the largest margin of victory by a female skier in such races belongs to Czech skier Katerina Neumannova, who won by an astounding minute and 8.5 seconds back in February 2007.

Historically, margins greater than 40 seconds between winning and the second place are rare in the World Cup. Besides Karlsson and Johaug, the notable names who have experienced such dominance include Finnish skier Virpi Sarasvuo and Norwegians Bente Skari and Marit Bjørgen. Interestingly, Johaug has managed to win interval start races by over 40 seconds on four separate occasions.

Looking forward, Norwegian experts predict Johaug as the favorite for Sunday’s 20 km mass start event, despite her recent narrow loss to compatriot Heidi Weng. Many eagerly anticipate whether Johaug can reclaim her title in the upcoming race at Ruka, a venue known for its challenging terrain that suits her skiing style. The event will highlight the competitive spirit of the top female cross-country skiers, featuring head-to-head racing which can display the culmination of their training and talent.
