Norwegian Sweep in Lillehammer – Recruit Andreas Fjorden Ree Shines in Absence of Johannes Høsflot Klæbo

Norwegian dominance was expected at the opening race in Lillehammer, and it held true as Martin Løwstrøm Nyenget claimed victory in the 10-kilometer freestyle event, a distance that is part of the upcoming World Championships. Nyenget outpaced several fellow Norwegians amidst light snowfall on a challenging course, finishing ahead of Simen Hegstad Krüger and Harald Østberg Amundsen, who took second and third respectively.

Recruit Andreas Fjorden Ree initially appeared to be heading for his first World Cup win but ultimately finished in fifth place, 10.4 seconds behind the leader, after losing ground in the final kilometers. With Klæbo recovering from a cold and unable to compete, the results provide significant insights ahead of the national selection for the World Championships scheduled in February.

Following this event, a sprint competition is set to take place in Lillehammer on Saturday, with a 20-kilometer mass start with ski swap scheduled for Sunday.
