Norwegian skier Mathias Holbæk recently emerged as the winner at the youth World Championships by claiming three gold medals. In the classic mass start race for athletes under 23, Holbæk finished ahead of Niko Anttola, who secured the silver medal.

Following the race, representatives from the International Ski Federation (FIS) summoned Holbæk and his coach to a jury room to explain what they termed his ‘tuuletus’ – a celebratory gesture. According to FIS, the gesture was considered sexual and unsporting, leading to a fine of 250 Swiss francs.

Holbæk expressed his irritation with the decision, commenting that he found the celebration fun and different. He also noted the irony in FIS’s previous calls for Nordic skiers to be more colorful, before abruptly condemning his action.
