Petter Northug is set to make his much-anticipated return to competitive cross-country skiing at the national opening in Beitostølen this November. This event marks his first participation in several years, with Northug last competing there in 2018. In an interview with TV 2, he expressed his enthusiasm for donning a race bib once again and being part of a competition that he has missed for so long.

Northug plans to take part in the classic sprint on November 22 and will follow it up with a 10 km freestyle event two days later. Since stepping away from elite competition nearly six years ago, he has maintained a rigorous training regimen. His notable comeback occurred in March, during which he played a key role in securing a silver medal for Strindheim in the team sprint at the Norwegian Championships.

With a renewed focus on traditional cross-country skiing this season, he mentioned, "The body has been working well lately, and I've had a more reasonable start to the season than last year."
