Benjamin Moser has qualified for the semifinals at the World Cup in Lillehammer, finishing in twelfth place overall. The skier from Tyrol was eliminated in the second round of knockout stages after experiencing an early pole break, which left him narrowly last in his heat. In the quarterfinals, he managed to secure a place after a closely contested photo finish for second. The overall victory went to top star Johannes Hösflot Kläbo, who returned to form after an illness.
Moser reflected on his performance, stating, "The semifinals are not to be taken for granted. I am incredibly satisfied that the season is starting so well. But it is just bitter because without the pole break, the final was within reach." The previous week at Ruka, Moser had achieved his best World Cup result to date with an eighth place in the classic sprint.
On Sunday, he is expected to compete again in the skiathlon event, with fellow competitor Mika Vermeulen, who surprisingly did not advance past the qualification in Lillehammer.
In the women's sprint with no Austrian participation, Sweden's Jonna Sundling took the victory.
