Martin Løwstrøm Nyenget Shows Great Form – Wins 20km in Davos

Martin Løwstrøm Nyenget has started the World Championship season impressively by capturing the 20 km classic race at the World Cup in Davos, Switzerland, on December 15, 2024. This victory is Nyenget's second World Cup win of the season; he earlier triumphed in the 10 km freestyle in Lillehammer.

Nyenget expressed his excitement about the win, stating, "It was a very fun day. I have been anxious because the air has been a bit thin, but it felt wonderful to achieve a great race today."

He finished with a time that put him 13.1 seconds ahead of Niskanen, who previously won the 10 km classic at the opening of the World Cup season in Ruka at the end of November. Nyenget's performance reflects his continued rise in form, emphasized by Viaplay expert Niklas Dyrhaug, who remarked, "It was a fantastic race — he is in superb form."

Following the race, Nyenget noted that Niskanen had been a close competitor. In the final stages, Nyenget managed to increase his lead, thereby solidifying his victory. Beyond this win, Nyenget has now accumulated three third-place finishes this season, achieving a total of four World Cup victories in his career.

Other notable performances included French skier Hugo Lapalus coming in third place, while renowned skier Johannes Høsflot Klæbo finished in fifth place, 1 minute and 6 seconds behind Nyenget. Nyenget's impressive showing marks a significant high point in what has already been a thrilling season of cross-country skiing.
