Swedish cross-country skier Märta Rosenberg, aged 22, had been on a gold-medal streak at the U23 World Championships until today, having been the fastest in both the sprint and the mass start events. However, in the 10 km freestyle race, she struggled due to a heavier race day. Although she was in medal contention at the halfway point, tiredness set in and she ultimately finished in fifth place, 1:08.6 behind the winner.
The race was won by Germany’s Helene Hoffmann, who claimed her third consecutive gold in the 10 km event at the U23 World Championships. Australia's Rosie Forshamn produced a major upset to secure the silver, while the bronze went to Canada’s Liliane Gagnon.
Despite the disappointment of not reaching the podium this time, Rosenberg expressed satisfaction with the overall championship performance and optimism for the relay event scheduled for the following day. Other Swedish athletes, including Elin Henriksson (25th), Evelina Crüsell (28th), and Lisa Ingesson (31st), also took part in the race.
Rosenberg commented, "It was really tough today. I realized early on that it would be difficult to make the podium, but I’m very pleased with the championship overall."
