Swedish cross-country skiing sensation Maja Dahlqvist, now 30, has hinted at the possibility of retirement following the World Championships in Falun in 2027. During a recent interview with Swedish media, she remarked, "Since I'm five years older than her, I suspect that Falun 2027 will likely be my last competition."
Dahlqvist continued, "I believe Frida might continue a bit longer, but you never can tell with her. I’m hopeful to push through until Falun and stay motivated. That would mark the perfect conclusion to my career. Three more seasons seems like an ideal target for me."
Over the course of her illustrious career, Dahlqvist has claimed five World Cup victories and achieved seven championship medals. Her standout accomplishments include winning gold medals in the World Championship team sprints in both 2019 and 2021.
The 2027 World Championships might signal the end of an era for many Swedish athletes; teammate Calle Halfvarsson has also indicated that it will be his final objective.
Looking ahead, the next World Championships in cross-country skiing are set to take place in Trondheim, Norway, from February 26 to March 9, 2025.
