Lucas Chanavat finishes third in the sprint at Engadin in World Cup

Lucas Chanavat, during the World Cup sprint event at Lillehammer, Norway, in December.

Lucas Chanavat attempted to lead the pack during the sprint final on Saturday at Engadin in Switzerland. However, he lacked the final push in the home stretch to stay on the podium, allowing Italian Federico Pellegrino to surge ahead. Pellegrino's performance was later invalidated due to a disqualification, which elevated Chanavat back to third place (+2.80 seconds).

Johannes Klaebo continued to showcase his dominance by overtaking Swedish rival Edvin Anger when he chose to. This marks Chanavat's third World Cup podium this season after previously finishing third in Davos and second in Toblach.

Richard Jouve narrowly missed advancing to the finals, caught in a pack during the semi-finals, while Rémi Bourdin was eliminated in the quarter-finals. Jules Chappaz and Renaud Jay did not progress past qualifying.

On the women's side, Swedish skier Jonna Sundling took the victory. The French competitor Lena Quintin was eliminated in the quarter-finals, along with Léonie Perry, Julie Pierrel, and Mélissa Gal, who did not make it past the qualifying rounds.
