Linn Sömskar, celebrated as Sweden's queen of roller skiing, has announced her retirement after an illustrious career that has seen her dominate the sport. Her decision comes on the heels of a phenomenal performance at the World Championships, where she earned an impressive three gold medals.
At 35, Sömskar boasts a remarkable legacy, which includes numerous Swedish championships in cross-country skiing and a total of 13 World Championship titles in roller skiing. In a heartfelt conversation with Expressen, she expressed the mixed emotions surrounding her decision: "It was very bittersweet to make this decision. It has been a long time coming. I haven't truly accepted it for myself, but now I feel ready."
Culminating her athletic journey in style, Sömskar showcased her prowess at this year’s World Championships, where she not only secured three gold medals but also claimed a silver in the span of just four days, alongside winning the overall World Cup title. Looking to the future, she plans to embark on new adventures and is set to graduate as a physiotherapist in a year.
