World Nordic Ski Championships: Cross-Country Favorite Weng Withdraws

The Nordic Ski Championships 2025 will be missing a major favorite: Tiril Udnes Weng of Norway has had to withdraw due to being diagnosed with infectious mononucleosis. This illness means she will miss the title fights starting at the end of February in her home country.

Tiril and her sister Lotta had invested in an apartment near the championship routes in Trondheim, but now Tiril is faced with the disappointment of missing out on the event. "I have been sick for four weeks now and still am," Weng told Norwegian broadcaster NRK.

While Tiril's preparations are thwarted, her sister Lotta can still focus on the championship at home. Tiril is contemplating whether to support her sister during the competition or leave the city entirely, stating, "I don't think I will be in Trondheim. It's terrible to miss this public celebration."
