Lahti Repairs Skating Rinks as Freezing Returns, but Some Ski Tracks Suffer from Lack of Snow
Originally published in Yle on January 31, 2025
The city of Lahti will begin repairing its skating rinks at the start of next week as freezing conditions are expected to return. While the larger rinks, such as those at schools, will be prioritized, maintenance of smaller skating areas in playgrounds will not be continued this winter.
At the same time, the city will continue to groom cross-country ski tracks, but only if there is sufficient snowfall. Conditions have varied across the area: for example, in Nastola’s Villähde the snow is reportedly too scarce for skiing, whereas between Uudenkylä and the Iitti border the conditions are more favorable.
Residents can check updated information on the condition of both skating rinks and ski tracks through Lahti’s official service pages, Lahti ski and Lahti skate.
