Kristine Stavås Skistad Breaks Silence: "It Has Been Very Tough"

Kristine Stavås Skistad is making her comeback this weekend at the World Cup sprint in Lillehammer after a challenging recovery from stomach surgery. In her first media appearance in six months, she spoke candidly about her struggles post-operation, stating, "It has been very tough."

Stavås Skistad, who ranked second in the sprint cup last season, had to miss the World Cup opener in Ruka due to her surgery a month ago. However, she is now determined to return.

During the press conference, she shared that the decision to compete in Lillehammer was made only recently, highlighting the uncertainty surrounding her recovery. She recounted her experience after the surgery, saying, "I can admit that it has been very tough, but I feel like I have gotten through it and am very happy about that."

Despite her struggles, she expressed gratitude for being able to return to the sport, acknowledging the renewed appreciation for her opportunities after facing such difficulties. "I feel very grateful to be here today," she emphasized.

Stavås Skistad admitted that her training has been limited since her surgery, and she jokingly described her condition as feeling much older than her 25 years. Yet, she has chosen not to disclose the specific reasons for her surgery but confirmed that it was necessary, making it clear she feels significantly better now.

Stavås Skistad's story illustrates the resilience needed in elite sports, especially when facing unexpected health challenges. As she prepares for her return to competition, fans and fellow athletes alike will be rooting for her success this weekend at Lillehammer.
